Level 1: Search Engine Placement Basics

What is Search Engine Placement?

Think about the last time you used a search engine (Yahoo, AOL, MSN, AltaVista, Google) to find a new product or service. Most people do not continue looking past the first 30 entries in the search results. This ranking on a search engine is called search engine placement, and it is the biggest obstacle facing unbranded web sites today.

Search engine placement technology is composed of the following:

  • Analysis of your existing Web pages.
  • Analysis of keywords compared to various search engine databases.
  • Optimization or creation of new pages that includes useful content related to your keyphrases.
  • Submission of your pages to the major search engines.
  • Monitoring and reporting on your position on each search engine.
  • You should look into a web tracker in case your current web host provider does not offer one.
